In a house in the Fucheng District of Mianyang, southwest China's Sichuan Province, , six elderly siblings take care of their 92-year-old mother Chen Yuxiang for 24 hours a day in rotation.
Chen is suffering from many illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease. She was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease several years ago.
In the past 16 years, the siblings have written 46 nursing diaries with over 300,000 words, meticulously recording their mother's daily condition.
The latest nursing dairy was written in 2018. On this notebook, Chen's bedside attendance and medication times are recorded in detail every day.
In Chen's family, such notebooks are piled high, amounting to 46 books in total. Most of them are faded, but still in good condition.
Deng Guoqing, one of Chen's daughters, looks at the notebooks with tears in her eyes. It reminds her of the care she and her siblings have given to their old mother.
In 2002, Chen's husband passed away. Since then, her physical condition has been deteriorating. Fortunately, the six children do their best to make her life more comfortable.
Deng Guoqing works in statistics. Naturally, she came up with the idea of using the notebooks to remind her siblings to take shifts in case they forget.
Deng Xiurong, Chen's youngest daughter, considers the siblings' action of taking care of Chen for over a decade as a repayment.
Many people around have suggested that they employ a carer or put Chen in a nursing home.
Deng Guoqing said that everyone has their own family and the most important thing is that a mother will be happier if she is accompanied by her children.
