Long Haiyan [CCTV.com]?????
Long Haiyan, 40, is an employee of Wudongde Hydropower Station, Engineering Construction Department of China Three Gorges Construction Management Co., Ltd. in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
Her devotion without regret to the construction of Xiluodu Hydropower Station was reported recently.
In February 2003, in response to the Three Gorges Hydropower development strategy of sustainable development to develop the Jinsha River, Long resolutely gave up her superior urban life and committed herself to the construction of Xiluodu Hydropower Station.
In 2012, she was dispatched to the construction of the Wudongde Hydropower Station, southwest China's Yunnan Province.
More than a decade ago, she was an ordinary clerk, but now, Long has managed to turn herself into an expert in the management of official documents, confidential materials, meetings and so on.
Although the work in the office was boring, she said, "With high requirements of policy and service, paper work is a special occupation. It may not be exciting, but this job concerns the overall situation and has to be done well."
It is the strong sense of responsibility that makes the seemingly boring work vivid and colorful to Long.
At the beginning of the preparation of the Wudongde Hydropower Station, there were few personnel but endless tasks. Long undertook many tasks singlehanded, such as document and conference management, by overcoming various difficulties she has encountered in life, such as inconvenient transportation and poor living conditions.
Since then, all the clerks of the Wudongde Engineering Construction Department have been trained under her guidance.
During her over 6 years of stay in Wudongde, she has handled more than 60,000 official documents, which means nearly 30 official documents per day, and she has coordinated and communicated with nearly 30 participating units, thus providing a strong support for the project construction.
"She personally has assumed multiple roles, but she always handles complicated things in a rigorous and meticulous manner, and very efficiently. Colleagues admire her a lot," said Zeng Mei, one of Long's co-workers.
In their eyes, Long is a person who says little but does a lot. She illuminates the best qualities of a Chinese builder in the new era with her practical actions.
Adhering to the national major water and hydropower project construction site for most part of the year, too often Long does not have much time to spend with her family , which is a great regret she can never make up for.
As a mother, she feels she owes too much to her daughter. "I didn't take care of her enough. Currently, my daughter attends school in our hometown. If she wants to see me, she'd have to come to the construction site," said Long.
"In my spare time, I miss my home and my daughter so much, but when I think of so many important things that have to be done for the construction, I can only choose to stay behind and conceal the deep guilt for my family in my heart," Long added.
Since the construction of the hydropower station, she has taken less than 50 days off every year. She works 24/7, which is her regular schedule.
In November 2013, Long was elected as a trade union member of the Wudongde Engineering Construction Department, mainly responsible for the work of female employees. Since then, she secretly set a goal of serving the female workers wholeheartedly.
There were few female employees in the department, most of whom? had just begun to work, often facing problems such as homesickness, lack of experience and other issues.
Given their realities, Long would always take the initiative to communicate with them, show her understanding in their difficulties in work, study and family life.
Likewise, if ever the occasions arise when colleagues are upset or want advice, they would always love to come to her. And more often than not she would offer her help just like a sister would.
After collecting many suggestions, she even came up with a Solution to Life's Problems manual. She has no reservations about what can be resolved; if the problem cannot be solved, she will give feedback to the leader, and serve a role of communication bridge between the leader and the staff.
In her view, "Only when employees are happy in their body and mind can they be better engaged in work and build a better project, and it is my responsibility to ensure that employees all are happy."
From the Three Gorges Project to the Xiluodu Hydropower Station Construction and the Wudongde Hydropower Project, Long has? witnessed the development of China's hydropower industry. She silently used her diligent and pragmatic work to contribute her bit to the construction of the country's major water conservancy projects.
